The subject of cryptocurrency may be brought to a major cable network in the U.S. according to a recent casting call from the producers of Alone and Queer Eye. The casting call is looking for individuals who have been locked out of their crypto wallets, and aims to assist them in retrieving their crypto, if at all possible.
Jessica Jorgensen, the development and series casting director at ITV America posted a casting call on LinkedIn:
“Now casting: Are you on the verge of losing your crypto? From the producers of Alone and Queer Eye comes a new major cable network series,”
The stories of individuals losing their cryptocurrency wallet passwords have made headlines across the world, with some crypto holders losing access to millions of dollars as the result of losing their password.
German-born programmer Stefan Thomas, made headlines this year after losing his crypto password, and access to his bitcoin which was worth in the region of $220 million at the time.
Thomas is one of many bitcoin owners who have lost their passwords and therefore all access to their cryptocurrency.
Another, now famous, account of an individual losing their bitcoin, involved a Welsh man who claims to have accidentally thrown away a hard drive with 7,500 bitcoin in 2013.
While these stories may appear laughable in their absurdity, the reality is that any crypto holder is a misplaced password away from losing their cryptocurrency. The decentralized nature of digital assets means that there is no centralized entity to turn to if a user misplaces their password.
The casting call for the cable network is specifically looking for individuals who has lost their keys, and who are willing to resort to “any means necessary” to retrieve their keys.
“We’re on a nationwide search for people who are currently locked out of their crypto wallets and on the verge of losing their money. If you’ve tried everything to remember your password but are running out of password attempts…and you’d love the help of trained experts to give you guidance and help…we’d love to hear your story,”
