Sportswear brand Adidas has made its entry into the metaverse, breaking the news to fans by showcasing a teaser of the collaboration with Bored Ape Yacht Club, Punk Comics, and GMoney.
The teaser consisted of images of upcoming NFTs, including that of a Bored Ape wearing an Adidas sweater, featuring the official logos of the parties involved in the collaboration. Adidas had also revealed that it had partnered with Coinbase and has referred to the metaverse as one of the most exciting developments in the digital space.
Four-Way Collaboration
Adidas is pulling out all the stops to announce that it has entered the blockchain technology space and metaverse collectibles space. Adidas made the announcement about its collaboration with Bored Ape Yacht Club, Punks Comic, and cryptocurrency investor GMoney on its Twitter handle. Adidas posted the following tweet,
“Today we leap Into The Metaverse with [Bored Ape Yacht Club], [Gmoney] & [Punks Comic]. It’s time to enter a world of limitless possibilities.”
The tweet generated significant interest on Twitter and was “liked” over 8000 times and retweeted over 4000 times. The tweet also had a link that led to a web portal called the Adidas Metaverse.
Bored Ape Purchase?
Adidas has also updated its Twitter profile image, updating it to a Bored Ape Yacht Club image. Adidas has purchased Bored Ape Yacht Club #8874. The collectible was sold for around 46 Ether. The Bored Ape features a gold hoop earring, heart-shaped sunglasses, blue fur, a fisherman’s hat, and of course, a bored look. The profile image features the Ape in a yellow Adidas jacket with the classic Adidas three-stripe logo.
The address that holds the BAYC also has 13 different NFTs featured from 11 different collections, according to data from dappradar. If Adidas owns the wallet in question, it also holds the Punks Comic “The Hunt for the Lost Robbies.” The comic was purchased for 6.95 ETH. The Bored Ape Yacht Club #8874 and the Punks Comic are the most expensive NFTs held in the wallet, with the other NFTs priced between $17 and $549.
Details Yet To Be Revealed
Adidas has still not revealed complete details about when the Bored Ape Yacht Club and Adidas NFTs will be issued and released to the general population. Adidas has also revealed that it is collaborating with Coinbase and also working with The Sandbox. However, more details about the collaboration with The Sandbox have yet to make their way into the public domain.
Nike In On The Action
Nike, the main competitor to Adidas, is also directing its efforts towards the metaverse. Nike has already revealed details about “Nikeland.” The blog post shed light on Nike’s presence in the virtual world Roblox. The post also revealed that Nikeland aims to foster an environment where competition and creativity are accessible by all.
