The team behind Brave Browser has announced that the privacy-focused browser would be integrating with the Solana blockchain. The partnership will allow Solana to bring Solana-based decentralized applications (dApps) to the Brave browser.
Solana will also promote the adoption of Brave Browser’s native currency, the Basic Attention Token (BAT), among users of its decentralized applications.
Solana’s Breakpoint Conference
The news was announced at Solana’s Breakpoint Conversation, which is taking place in Lisbon. Brave and BAT CEO and co-founder Brendan Eich and the CEO and founder of Solana Anatoly shared details about how Brave and Solana would work together and bring best-in-class wallet features for Solana’s blockchain on Brave’s desktop and mobile browsers in 2022.
Brave also took to Twitter, announcing the partnership on their handle,
“We’ve partnered with @solana to integrate it into the browser and make it the default for DApp support. We will soon bring best-in-class wallet features for the Solana blockchain into our desktop & mobile browsers. #BreakpointLisbon”
The Solana blockchain will be integrated into the Brave browser, providing the default Solana ecosystem to users on Brave. Brave has 42 million active monthly users and 1.3 million verified creators. Brave will also use Solana as default for Solana native and cross-chain dApps.
Solana’s Fast And Low Fee Transactions
Solana enables quick and cheap transactions, helping to quicken the pace of DeFi and Web3 adoption. Ethereum has significantly high transaction fees due to the growing interest in DeFi, which has prevented a fair amount of users from exploring DeFi and transactions. As the fastest blockchain, Solana is looking to significantly scale blockchain transactions with extremely low transaction fees, helping increase DeFi Adoption.
User And Developer Demand
The partnership between Solana and Brave is being touted as a direct result of a demand made by both users and developers. CEO and Co-founder of Brave, Brendan Eich, stated,
“With more and more users and creators requiring tools for fast and affordable access to the decentralized Web, this integration will seamlessly pave the way for the next billion crypto users to harness applications and tokens.”
CEO of Solana Labs, Anatoly Yakovenko, speaking about the partnership, commented,
“For billions of people, the mobile web will be their gateway to Web3. Deep integration with browsers is key to helping DApps build the best web experiences. Brave’s announcement of Solana wallet support across all versions of their browsers is an important step to onboard the next billion users to Solana.”
Other Implementations
The integration between Solana and Brave will also enable Solana’s DEX aggregator for swaps, NFT support, SPL tokens, and creating accounts. Solana will also implement the “Themis Protocol” on the Solana Network. Brave develops the Themis Protocol, and its implementation on Solana will be a key milestone in the BAT 2.0 roadmap. Solana will also encourage the promotion of BAT on the Solana network and decentralized applications built on Solana.
The Browser Of Choice For Web3
Brave is the choice of many to access Web3. Users of Brave can access Web3 on mobile in a more secure environment, especially when wallet address leaks are becoming more prevalent and concerning among Web3 users. Brave gives users a better alternative to the already existing Web3 wallets.
Brave will also continue supporting Ethereum and integrating support for additional blockchains on the Brave browser. Brave also believes that a multi-chain, blockchain-agnostic wallet will be key to DeFi adoption.
