The Universal Music Group has created a supergroup band called Kingship with four characters from the Bored Ape Yacht Club lineup.
New Band In The NFT House
Universal Music is one of the largest music labels in the world and has been home to best-selling artists like Drake and Taylor Swift. However, the group’s latest initiative has ushered it right into the metaverse. Its next-gen label 10.22PM, under the leadership of founder Celine Joshua, is launching the music group Kingship, which will put on performances and even release original music. However, what makes Kingship stand out is that its band members are all apes. In fact, they are all bored apes from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT collection. NFTs of Kingship will be put up for sale, allowing fans and music lovers to access unique experiences like listening to original music and attending real-world and virtual events.
Each NFT Band Member To Develop Own Sound: Founder
Universal Music Group has lauded the initiative by 10.22PM. It has pledged its support to the group in developing and releasing new music, NFTs, community-based products, activations, and experience in the metaverse, to bring in a new generation of artists, fans, and community engagement.
Joshua announced the Kingship band, saying,
“Creating KINGSHIP has been incredibly fun and imaginative…Each member of the group has their own story and personality that influences and contributes to KINGSHIP’s overall narrative. Through music and events across the metaverse, we will bring the Apes in KINGSHIP to life by building communities and utility, and entertaining audiences around the world.”
Private Collector Contributes Bored Apes
The project is being launched in collaboration with leading NFT collector McNelis to conceptualize this project. McNelis has acquired hundreds of BAYC NFTs from its creator, Yuga Labs LLC, and has a collection that he estimates is worth more than $100 million. The four apes featured in the band are from McNelis’ private collection and consist of a Mutant Ape and three Bored Ape characters, including rare Golden Fur and Bluebeam Apes.
McNelis commented on the collaboration,
“This deal is a leading example of how powerful commercial rights are for collectible NFT projects and their collectors. I’m incredibly excited to explore this new area of NFT ownership with Celine Joshua and 10:22!”
The Bored Ape Saga
The BAYC collection has taken the world of NFTs by storm by making record-breaking sales. Back in September, a bundle of 101 NFTs from the Bored Ape Yacht Club sold for a whopping $24.4 million. Then later in October, it was announced that the BAYC NFT project would be launching its own crypto token in 2022.
